Springtime workouts!

As we wave goodbye to Winter, and whilst it’s a little terrifying that we’re already three months into 2019, it does mean that we’re about to experience Spring and all that it has to offer the Capital. The trees are beginning to blossom, the days are getting longer and most importantly, the sun is starting to make regular appearances – making it the perfect time to really get stuck into those outdoor workouts. Here are a few to try out this Springtime…

Brisk Walking

Jogging is a great n’ all, but don’t underestimate the power of a good hike. Spring is the perfect time to explore some of London’s beauty spots on foot, with places like Hampstead Heath and Richmond Park offering the perfect setting to reap many of the rewards that hiking can offer, including lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of stroke, diabetes, and heart disease. Why not give the tube a miss and take a brisk walk to work next time you have a little time to spare?

Cycling

London’s streets are awash with Boris Bikes (or Sadiq cycles if you will), along with a number of other great new (and cheap) cycle hire initiatives, meaning that old “I don’t have a bike” excuse just wont cut it anymore. Whether it’s through the streets or through the parks, pedal pushing is a fantastic full body workout, and a whole lot more fun and beneficial to your mental and physical wellbeing than a stationary cycling session in the gym. 

Outdoor Swimming

As the temperatures start to rise in the capital we’ll start to see many of the outdoor swimming spots open their doors to the swathes of Londoners ready to take the plunge. Springtime makes the more natural locations like Hampstead Swimming Ponds and The Serpentine especially beautiful, allowing you to reap the rewards of a workout in truly stunning surroundings. Yoga

If you’re yet to experience Yoga outside then you’re missing out on a real game changer. Seriously. It truly is something that when tried once, will change your experience of the activity forever. Yoga is just as much about relaxation and serenity as it is about the positioning and the movement, and there’s no better contributor to tranquillity than fresh air and beautiful surroundings, not to mention the huge list of potential benefits that the activity can offer!

Outdoor Sports

Harness your competitive nature and take part in some good old fashioned sport!

Working in a big office? Why not round up the troops for regular team sports games like football, netball or rounders – there are a number of leagues and sports centres in the capital that makes organising games easier than ever. Not forgetting that working out as part of a group can offer a load more benefits over going solo, as we explained in another of our recent blog posts.
